4th annual Indigenous Celebration Week
The University of Alberta Students' Union (UASU), is hosting the 4th annual Indigenous Celebration Week (ICW). The events will take place between January 28 and 31, 2025.This year’s theme focuses on Indigenous Futures, celebrating an Indigenous led future. The theme encapsulates futures on an individual level and also on a community and nation building level. Through this theme we aim to imagine what an Indigenous led future could look like.
ICW 2025 Schedule of Events
Tuesday January 28
9 AM: Pipe Ceremony | KIVA (ED N 2-103)
Opening ceremony for ICW 2025 led by Elder Francis Wiskeyjack
10:30-12:30PM: Indigenous Futurisms Panel | Dinwoodie Lounge SUB
This event will discuss topics around Indigenous Futurism and how they are shaping a reimagination of what the future looks like. The session will begin with a presentation by Chealsea Vowel followed by panel speakers.
1-3 PM: Careers Event | Cascade (0-49) SUB
Networking connecting students, especially Indigenous students with professionals of various careers. This event is co-sponsored by Ubuntu and AIIC.
Wednesday January 29
10-11:30 AM: Indigenous Sustainability Panel | Cascade (0-49) SUB
Learn about Indigenous led ways in creating a sustainable future.
12:30-2PM: Two-Spirit Drag Workshop | Orion (0-51) SUB
This event is hosted in partnership with the Landing. Led by an amazing Indigenous Drag King, Tugs who will teach participants an amazing eye make-up look. Supplies will be provided and space is limited. RSVP required.
Thursday January 30
11-1PM: Indigenous Feast | Dinwoodie Lounge SUB
Connecting Indigenous students through traditional indigenous foods on campus. Food will be provided and space is limited. RSVP required - open only to Indigenous students
6 PM: Tia Wood in Concert | Horowitz Theatre
Join us to celebrate indigenous youth! Opening dances from Tiny Tots followed by performance from Tia Wood. Tickets available for purchase.
Friday January 31
10-4PM: Indigenous Market | Main Floor SUB
Join our annual indigenous market featuring a variety of talented Indigenous Artisans!
