Welcome to GovWeek!

GovWeek 2017

Good governance doesn’t happen on its own. Every student, community, and organization has a unique perspective that can help shape their campus experience.

That’s why the Students’ Union hosted the inaugural GovWeek in 2016, and why the event is being held again this year.

A celebration of governance at the University of Alberta, GovWeek will be held from September 18 to 22, and will feature a wide variety of workshops and events, empowering students with the knowledge and tools to make an impact on campus.

Want to learn more about the way decisions are made on campus? Interested in how University governance affects students? Considering running in the fall by-elections, or gearing up for a spring election campaign? Curious about how student groups, faculty associations or students’ council operate? These topics and more will be covered in sessions led by campus-based groups, governance experts, and passionate students.

GovWeek is the ultimate way for students to get their foot in the door of governance, and everyone is invited.

GovWeek is currently accepting applications for those who are interested in hosting an event or a session during GovWeek.

A session is something free of cost for participants, that is informational and directly relates to the topic of governance. In the past these included sessions on how to run in an election, how to lobby, what the sexual violence policy framework is, etc.

An event is something that can be free or at a cost for participants. These are held by organizations or representatives of organizations that are involved in governance, such as faculty or department associations, and these can be educational or social. In the past these included events like faculty association annual general meetings, organzation open houses, a governance after party, etc.

If you would like to host a session you can apply here in english or en Français.
