Description:

We are looking for compassionate, warm and empathetic individuals with experience in counselling or supportive listening experience with grief and loss related to suicide. In this role, you will be reviewing session material for groups with co-facilitator, while also maintaining adequate records, and developing materials as needed. This position may also be used as a practicum placement depending on program requirements.

Qualifications:

•Minimum post-secondary education in Human Services related field; specifically, psychology, social work, counselling with expertise in grief and loss
•2-years successful experience as a Distress Line volunteer within the last three years or two years, experience counselling or supportive listening experience with grief and loss related to suicide
•2-years previous experience in group facilitation,
•Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certificate
•Conversant with the philosophy of mental health and recovery


Training:

Agency orientation
• Job specific training; the volunteer will observe groups for the first month before co-facilitating;
will be introduced to iCarol database and statistics collection
• Monthly clinical supervision that can account to practicum hours
• Monthly in-services on matters related to mental health, mental illness and recovery
