Welcome Workshop Series
This series is meant to give new and returning students the opportunity to interact with the many services and units from across our UAlberta community, while also giving them tools to support their academic journeys. These sessions encompass all aspects of university life, including academic, social, and holistic wellness.
These sessions are available for all students and are highly encouraged! There is no cost associated with attending a Welcome Workshop.

Start the year in a laid-back setting and hang out with other students. Paint a tote bag, make a stress-care kit and enjoy other activities hosted by U of A student groups. While you’re there, chat with the our team about how you can take care of yourself throughout the academic year. You’re about to embark on an exciting journey and we’ve got some activities and games to get you on your way. Refreshments will be provided. This event is hosted by Days of Action in observation of Suicide Prevention Day. |

Campus and Community Recreation September 11 - 12pm-1pm |
Discover the wide array of programs and activities offered by Campus and Community Recreation! Learn more about the Hanson Fitness and Lifestyle Centre, the Wilson Climbing Wall, and the pool, and find out how to access these facilities. We'll also introduce you to our extensive range of group fitness classes, intramural leagues, and club sports, and guide you on how to get registered and involved. Are you new to the city or new to campus? Are you wanting to meet new people and make new friends? Are you unsure how to connect with others on campus? Well, good news! You are not alone! Being new to campus can be an intimidating and stressful experience. The ability to meet new people and develop meaningful relationships is not an easy task at all. One way to positively impact your student experience and academic success is to make new friends. And one of the ways you can learn to make connections is to come to this session!! Be brave! Be bold! Come on by and join the discussion, and meet new people to learn how to develop friendships on campus. |

How to Get Started in Undergraduate Research September 13 - 12pm-1pm |
Undergraduate research is a high-impact hands-on learning opportunity that can support your career development in a variety of ways, regardless of your discipline or future career goals. In this seminar, we will introduce you to the diverse range of research opportunities available to undergraduate students at the UofA, guide you through the steps to get involved, show you examples of undergraduate research projects from various disciplines, and share resources and services across campus that can support you in your research journey. This seminar will also explain the structures and expectations of the self-paced non-credit program, Roadmap to Research, and act as enrolment into the program. This session is an ideal starting point for students in any discipline who are curious about undergraduate research, even if you are undecided about whether you want to pursue research as an option. |

Suicide Prevention Training: Question, Persuade, Refer September 13 - 1pm-3pm |
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a 2 hour certified suicide prevention training program. As gatekeeper training, UofA staff, faculty, and students gain skills to recognize and support people who may be having thoughts of suicide |

Learn the basic components of a resume and cover letter, including formatting and targeting to specific job opportunities. |

Set Your Degree Apart With The Certificate in Sustainability! September 17 - 11am-12pm |
The Certificate in Sustainability (CIS) is a free credential that can set your degree apart from the rest. Available to undergraduate students in 10 faculties, the CIS is a great way to connect your education to your passion for solving social and environmental challenges without changing your major! Join this workshop to learn about the requirements and what you can gain by completing this embedded certificate. |

Interviews often come up with very little notice. Increase your chance of success by learning how to prepare effectively for your interviews and how to answer different types of interview questions. |

Introduction to Cyber Security September 18 - 10am-12pm |
We will be introducing participants to the basics of cybersecurity in the modern age such as not validating links to be clicked, scam calls, and phishing email scams. We will also be reinforcing our discussion with a live technical demonstration of the dangers of clicking malicious links. |
