The Works Art & Design Festival is the most unique, free event of its kind. Attracting artists, designers and visitors from all around the world, this city-wide event boosts the energy and imagination of downtown Edmonton at the start of every summer with public art installations, special events, live music entertainment, family programs, workshops, and more. Free to the public, The Works strives to create barrier free access to art and design.

New for 2022 - Edmonton’s first festivals of summer, The Works Art & Design Festival and The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival are teaming up to present 10 days of Variety Performers, Visual Art, Shenanigans, Music, Food, and Fun. As audiences return to in-person events this summer, the two festivals will collaborate to present an uncondensed celebration that highlights the best of what each festival has to offer live and in person on Sir Winston Churchill Square, July 8-17, 2022.

As a special events assistant, assist with set up and running special events during The Works Art & Design Festival, including artist receptions, artist talks, performances, workshops, lectures, and parties. In some cases, help market and promote the event beforehand. Work closely with staff and get an inside look at how The Works special events come together.

As a photographer work with a team of photographers to document North America’s largest free outdoor art and design festival. Use your skilled eye to capture special moments and memories we can share with the world.

Duties:
• Being present at festival events to photograph key moments
• Following a shot list developed by The Works Staff
• Track and label your photos according to the The Works filing systems
• Appropriately credit artwork as it appears in photos

Supervise outdoor art exhibits on The Works Festival site (Churchill Square). Become very familiar with the work of many local, national, and international artists. Use customer service skills to introduce the artwork to visitors and engage in conversation to provide a memorable experience. Ensure the safety of the artwork, take attendance, administer surveys and collect donations.

This position is great for anyone: visual arts students wishing to expand art interpretation skills, or any community member looking for an introduction into the arts.

As a Festival Greeter, be the first face patrons see on the Square! Greet the public, answer questions, administer surveys and monitor donations.

This position is great for anyone enthusiastic about community or public art. Speaking English is NOT a requirement for this position.
