Opening Keynote: Introduction to Governance, Marina Banister

• Keynote Event
• 09/18/2016
• 12 - 2pm
• Alumni Lounge, Main Floor SUB

Marina Banister is the 2017-2018 President of the University of Alberta Students’ Union. She is a born and raised Edmontonian, currently completing her degree in political science at the University of Alberta. Last year, as UASU VP Academic, Marina started GovWeek with hopes to make governance more accessible to University of Alberta students. It is her deep passion for student engagement that led Marina to participate in every level of student governance during her time at the U of A including her Department Association, Faculty Association, Student Council, General Faculties Council, Senate, and affiliated committees. During her years on campus, Marina has gotten to really understand how decisions are made on campus. In her interactive keynote speech, Marina will outline the importance of student advocacy, give tips and tricks on finding opportunities to get involved in decision making, as well as explain key strategies to win elections and be an effective student advocate. There will also be plenty of time for question and discussion between participants. Please help us kick off GovWeek 2017 by joining us at our opening keynote event!
