Beyond Diversity & Inclusion: In this interactive and collaborative session, participants will learn and deepen their understanding about the barriers people face at the university and wider community from an anti-oppressive lense. What are the structural barriers faced by students and members of our communities? Where do they come from? How do we work together to not only create a better campus, but to create a better world? This introductory session will act a conversation starter and get participants thinking critically about the world and their place in it.

In February 2017, the Research and Political Affairs Department of the Students’ Union (SU) of the University of Alberta undertook a study to examine whether and how identity (gender, race, sexuality, age) matters to undergraduate involvement and desire to seek elected office in post-secondary student governance. The analysis examines the experience of elected student leaders at the faculty association, Students' Council, and SU Executive levels.
